do you hear it?

Do you hear it?  Can you?  Maybe we should…maybe amidst the noise there is something stronger, more beautiful and profound we could hear – if we listen for it.  (click the image)

Unhook the trailer

Sometimes we get so busy trying to live the Christian life, we forget some of the basics that enable us to experience a deepening relationship with Christ. It’s ALL about developing that relationship. Here’s a simple reminder we all need from time -to- time. Confession restores and reconciles.  Sometimes it’s important to unhook the trailer of extras we’re stuck carrying around…trailer   ~Jack

next steps toward change

All of us desire to keep improving – whether it’s getting better at work or a hobby or in other pursuits and relationships…

I heard a simple sentence a decade ago that challenged me: “you’ll be the same person today – 10 years from now, except the places you go, people you meet and the books you read.”

Here’s some thoughts on that – and a couple other posts available:

Haiti – your response

Last week we asked you to join together with the Church across the world to respond to the disaster in Haiti. As this story continues to unfold, all of us look for ways to help. This past Sunday we took up an offering that we will be sending to a couple of organizations that are on the ground in Haiti assisting with medical attention, food & water distribution, along with handing out basic needs (blankets, shelter, hygiene supplies, clothing, etc.)

The Bible says in 1 John 3:16-18

16This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 17If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 18Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

I am so grateful for the generous hearts of Casas! This past Sunday we raised over $500 in just coins…and when you add the loose bills and checks made out to the relief efforts – we totaled over $27,000 thousand dollars!

These funds will be making their way through some godly organizations. The following 3 organizations are being considered: Samaritan’s Purse and World Vision. You can click on their links and see their sites. These 2 Christian camps have been at work for years in Haiti with well staffed teams already on the ground. They have been distributing supplies and providing medical care from the onset of the earthquake a week ago. The other is the International Mission Board: http://imbresources.org/index.cfm/fa/store.prod/ProdID/2825.cfm. Haiti Response Fund – 100 percent of our gift will be used for meeting needs of earthquake victims in Haiti through Southern Baptist relief efforts there.

Thank you so much again for letting your light shine with a Kingdom vision and heart for the things that matter to our Lord. Continue to shine – continue to pray for God’s power to the relief workers, for many to come to know Christ and for the people of Haiti with your family.

I’m so proud to partner with you to build and invest into God’s kingdom work here and around the world!  I’ll see ya Sunday.

Haiti …Our Response

earthquakeIts hard to grasp how much physical and emotional pain the people of Haiti are going through. Every time I hear another story or see another picture it sinks in a little deeper. Haiti has been a place with very little hope for a long time, and now it must seem as if all hope is gone.

This is a moment when the body of Christ can shine as nothing else in this world. This is a time for all of us to be a source of living hope and love.  This Sunday Casas will take time to pray for Haiti and help raise money to assist in the massive effort to help so many suffering right now.

Jesus opens the Sermon on the Mount with the words (Matthew 5)

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…”

Take some time this week with friends or family to pray for Haiti and be open to God’s leading in what you might do to assist in the relief effort. I’ll see you Sunday as we gather together again – to be as Jesus said: “The light of the world“.

Blessings, ~ Glenn

I’m grateful for the gifts our people of Casas have given to our Church & our Global Outreach fund. Scott Brenden (our Missions Pastor) was able to send off some funds to help in the disaster relief this afternoon – quick response. Way to go.
